Brookline, MA Police Dept. released this flier in hopes of finding missing teen, Caleb Jacoby

Sixteen year old Caleb Jacoby is a junior at the Maimonides School, an Orthodox day school in Brookline, Massachusetts.

On Monday, Jan. 6, at 12:30 p.m., Caleb went missing. He was last seen in a coffee shop on Chestnut Hill Avenue in Cleveland Circle, Brookline. He has not been seen since then, and his parents, the Maimo community, and much of Jewish Boston and well beyond, are frantic.

Jeff Jacoby, a well-known columnist for the Boston Globe, is Caleb’s father. Every year around Caleb’s birthday, Jacoby writes a column dedicated to his son.  Caleb’s mother is Laura Weller, and he has a ten-year old brother, Micah. Micah is also a student at Maimonides.

At 5’11”,  Caleb is a tall, thin boy. He has short, light brown hair.  He was last seen wearing navy chino pants or jeans, a navy polo shirt, a brown winter jacket with a hood, either brown shoes or sneakers and white socks.

The teenager is a serious student whose hangouts are typically either local libraries or the local Young Israel, located in Brookline.

A search was undertaken Wednesday morning, with volunteers fanning out from his school into the surrounding neighborhoods. There was also a prayer vigil held at his synagogue, the Young Israel of Brookline.

As of Wednesday morning, when asked about the search for Caleb Jacoby, the Brookline Police Department spokesperson said, “It’s still active; no changes at all.”

Efrat Lipshitz, Caleb’s Hebrew teacher at the Maimonides School said,”We don’t know anything. We don’t even have a clue.”

Hundreds of messages were posted overnight on social media. They included descriptions of Caleb, information about where he was last seen, and they included requests for prayers for Caleb and for his parents and brother.

If saying tehillim, Caleb’s Hebrew name is Calev Avraham ben Elisheva Rus.

Caleb’s father tweeted a message of thanks Tuesday evening.

Jacoby is known for his politically conservative and pro-Israel views.

Anyone with information about Caleb’s whereabouts is asked to call the Brookline, Massachusetts Police Department at 617.730.2222.
