Norwegian police have arrested one suspect after a bomb was found less than a kilometer from the main police station in Oslo, just outside the Groenland underground station, but declined to release details.

The area was immediately cordoned off upon discovery of the explosive device, and heavily armored police swept the area, evacuating people from restaurants and bars, all of which closed immediately.

Sappers carried out a controlled explosion of the device once the area was secured.

A police spokesperson later told a briefing, “The noise from the blast was louder than our own explosives would cause,” Sky News reported.

The Norwegian capital was placed on high alert following the explosion, which came barely 24 hours after a terrorist attack in Stockholm left four people dead at 15 more injured.
