Iran Campaign Targeting Israel as Global Nuclear Threat

The Dimona nuclear reactor dome. Iran has been using Israel's reluctance to join the NPT to escape criticism of its own program.

Press TV, Iran’s television network, broadcasting in English round-the-clock, on Sunday published an interview with Mark Glenn, of The Crescent and Cross Solidarity movement, who said that Israel is the only regime that “has threatened to take the entire world down in a nuclear Armageddon in the instance that her precious experiments in Jewish self-rule in the Middle East ceases to materialize.”

“There is no other country in existence today that has basically told the entire world that if we are going to go down we are going to take the rest of the world down with us,” he added.

The analyst expressed regret that the nuclear threat from Israel looms over the world, “while Tel Aviv continues to use its mainstream media outlets to level allegations against other countries, accusing them of possessing non-civilian nuclear programs.”

An Idaho based, pro-Islamist advocate, Mark Glenn is the author of “No Beauty In The Beast: Israel Without Her Mascara,” a discussion of “the manner in which the Christian West has been seduced into slaughtering Muslims is the extension of the same battle that took place in Jerusalem 2,000 years ago between Jesus and the founders of the modern-day ideological movement known as Zionism.”

Glenn’s other book, with Victor Thorn, is “Ship Without A Country: Eyewitness Accounts of the Attack on the USS Liberty.”

The interview with Glenn comes on the heels of the meeting in Vienna last week on the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which constitutes a commitment on the part of the five atomic powers to eliminate their bombs in the future, and a counter pledge on the part of mid-level industrial countries not to pursue them.

Pakistan and India, both possessing nuclear weapons, have not signed the NPT. North Korea, which is believed to be preparing a third nuclear test, withdrew from the NPT in 2003. Israel, which is widely believed to possess the only nuclear arsenal in the Middle East’s, has stayed out of the NPT debate altogether.

On Friday, the Iranian news agency Mehr reported that Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Mahdi Akhondzadeh said Israel’s undeclared nuclear weapons pose the greatest threat to Mideast peace. Akhondzadeh accused the United States and other nuclear powers of hypocritically ignoring their disarmament commitments.

Akhondzadeh’s comments to a 189-nation nonproliferation meeting were part of Iran’s attempts to escape international criticism of its nuclear program.

The New Agenda Coalition (NAC), composed of Brazil, Egypt, Ireland, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sweden, has been urging nuclear-armed nations to disarm faster, disregarding claims from the nuclear powers who say they are making “unprecedented progress” toward disarmament.

A review conference of the NPT is scheduled for 2015.

On Wednesday, Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said during an official visit to South Africa, that Israel is a “threat” to its region because it owns nuclear weapons.

Erdogan accused the West of “double standards” in the way that it has tried to ban Iran from building nuclear weapons without taking similar measures against Israel.

Iran has criticized the five nuclear powers’ “hypocrisy.” Akhondzadeh has said that France has made every effort to help Israel in its efforts to develop nuclear weapons.

“While certain countries such as France express concerns over peaceful nuclear activities of Iran … they have spared no effort in helping Israel … to develop inhumane nuclear weapons,” Akhondzadeh told the Vienna meeting, according to Reuters.

On Saturday, Iran’s Press TV published an interview with Kaveh Afrasiabi, author, most recently, of “Iran Phobia And US Terror Plot: A Legal Deconstruction.”

Afrasiabi told the Iranian interviewer: “There’ve been some feeble but, nevertheless, significant attempts at the United Nations as well as the IAEA to address the issue of Israel being outside the NPT, not allowing any access to the IAEA for example or inspection of its nuclear facilities.

“The world community is only beginning now to exert some pressure on Israel and indirectly on the US and other Western governments on this particular subject. The conversation is growing louder and louder.

“My impression is that the world’s attention to this subject is on the rise and is putting a lot of pressure on Israel. Israel’s counterstrategy has been to deflect attention from itself by focusing on Iran’s so-called nuclear threat, which is a non-existing fictional threat..”
