Hamas flags in Ramallah: Using a murder to cook up a classic blood libel

The editor of a Hamas-affiliated newspaper in Gaza has claimed that Jews killed Muhammad Abu Khdeir in order to use his blood to bake matzah for next year’s Passover holiday, according to a report in The Jerusalem Post.

The Post cited an exclusive report authored by the Middle East Media Research Institute, quoting Wisam Afifa, editor of Al-Risala, who accused Jews of “carry(ing) out their sacred [act of] vengeance by torturing him and burning him to death, in a crime reminiscent of their holy matzas that became part of their history of betrayal and murder – for the culture of violence and blood grew among the Jews to such an extent that it seeped into their sacred rites and prayers.”

Afifa added: “By holy matzas,’ I mean those matzas mixed with human blood, the blood of gentiles, namely of the non-Jewish other, [which they baked] to celebrate the Jewish holiday called Passover.”

“According to historical accounts, they used to murder Christians, preferably children under ten, collect their blood, and then hand it over to a rabbi, so he would mix it into the holiday matzas, and then serve them to the believers, to devour on their holiday,” said Afifa.

Although police are investigating several avenues into the murder of Muhammad Abu Khder, left-wing Israeli and international media published initial “speculation” that religious Jews were behind the murder, based mostly on the timing. Most media failed to note that police are investigating at least two criminal motives – as opposed to nationalist ones – that could explain the crime.

But the mainstream media has simply not been interested in the possibility that “settlers” did not carry out this attack. Haaretz, Israel’s apologist broadsheet, said clearly that the murder “is suspected to have been a kidnapping and murder carried out by right-wing Israeli extremists, possibly an act of revenge for the killing of the three Israeli teens last month.”

Similarly, Britain’s The Guardian cited that “Palestinian officials believe it was a revenge attack for the kidnapping and killing of three Israeli teenagers,” conveniently forgetting to mention the fact that police believe the murder could have been a revenge killing not by Jews, but by a rival Palestinian clan. In addition, The Guardian featured a video showing Abu Khder’s aunt “narrating” the supposed CCTV video of the abduction. But while the closed-circuit video does not show any conclusive evidence that Abu Khder was forced into a car, Guardian are expected to accept the “fact” that the footage confirms Palestinians automatic suspicions.

Al-Rissala editor Wisam Afifa also told The Post that “The Jews have adopted the ideology of the Nazis by distinguishing between the superior Jewish race and others,” he said. “These ancient rites are echoed in modern ones, whereby [the Jews] sanctify the blood of [their fellow] Jews, who are considered humans of the first level, and disregard the blood of Palestinians. That is how they baked their sacred bread in the past, and that is how they hold their sacred rites of vengeance in the present, whose victim [this time] was the boy Abu Khdeir, Afifa said.
