For the second time in a year Israeli Air Force pilots are flying alongside those from the United Arab Emirates.

The pilots are flying alongside each other in the Iniohos 2017 Red Flag joint aerial drill, although there are no formal diplomatic ties between the two nations, as they did last year as well.

The exercise is “a Hellenic Air Force-led, large force, flying exercise between NATO Allies and partner nations” runs from March 27 to April 6, according to a statement released by the U.S. Armed Forces.

The Greek navy and army units are also participating in the exercise, according to Greek media.

The exercise involves the Israel Air Force as well as those of the United States, the UAE and Italy, all of whom will be performing “complex air operations” as part of the drill.

“Multinational training engagements such as these strengthen our relationships, maintain joint readiness and interoperability, and reassure our regional Allies and partners,” read a US army statement.
