The majority of Israelis cherish the devotion and courage of Israel’s “fighters of silence,” members of the intelligence community whose actions contributed to the security of the people without public recognition, Shin Bet Director Nadav Argaman said Wednesday.

Addressing a Memorial Day service at the headquarters of the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet), Argaman recalled his fallen comrades as “brave people with a sense of mission, who gave their lives in an ongoing campaign for Israel’s security, beginning in the earliest days of the state.”

“Our comrades’ wills may not be heard, but they are with us all the time,” Argaman said. “In their deaths, they ordered us to continue to adhere to the values upon which the security services were established: to firmly grasp the vision that leads us forward.”

Argaman concluded by looking at the future role of the General Security Service (ISA) and praised agents for inspiring generations of Israelis.

“We become the source of strength and inspiration every day, for the sake of life, for the people and the state. In its 70th year, Israel is stronger than ever, more technological, more innovative than ever,” he said. “The best young people are in our organization; we are proud of this and continue to instill in them the legacy of our organization.”
