The pilot program for the introduction of women into the Israel Defense Forces Tank Corps has been frozen four months after being dubbed a success, according to a report on Israel’s Kan public television broadcasting network.

Four female soldiers who completed the tank commanders’ course successfully all became instructors on base; none became tank commanders in action.

Of the six female fighters who completed the armored corps training program, all were placed in the Karakal Battalion combat Border Regiment.

Not one was placed in a tank as an Armored Corps soldiers.

No reason was given for the decision to avoid placing female soldiers in tanks.
