An injured Jewish boy is being hauled to the waiting bus by brutal Israeli policemen in the Samaria outpost Amona, Jan. 1, 2006. This deportation took place under the regime of Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who had just replaced the ailing Ariel Sharon, the architect of a much larger deportation of thousands of Jews from Gush Katif. Three days later, Sharon was felled by a massive stroke that left him in a vegetative state. Olmert himself and a very long list of officials involved in those expulsions were hit by tragedies, some minor, some major.

Terrorists in Hamas-controlled Gaza attacked Israel with another rocket Sunday evening, causing no injuries or damage but sending residents in the Sderot area to bomb shelters. Rebbes and their flock at a rally outside a military prison south of Haifa, in solidarity with two Yeshiva students who were imprisoned for refusing to report to the IDF recruitment offices earlier this month. The notion that only non-Haredi Jews will get killed defending the Jewish State is repugnant. The idea that Israeli Haredi rabbis will go to the diaspora to say loshon hora against Israeli Jews is grotesque.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on a train to the southern town of Sderot, to inaugurate a new, rocket proof train station. As this picture exhibits, Netanyahu's political foundation relies on right-wingers (like Minister of Transportation Yisrael Katz sitting next to him) and the Orthodox, without being one himself. He must devise maneuvers to keep the right at his side, while supporting the secularist Ashkenazi elite where he really belongs.
