Israeli first responders after terror attack at Damascus Gate entrance to Old City of Jerusalem

A female terrorist was stopped in her tracks by Israeli security personnel Sunday evening as she lunged with a knife towards Israeli Border Guard Police officers at the Damascus Gate entrance to the Old City of Jerusalem.

The police responded to the threat by opening fire at the attacker, who appeared to be a teenager, according to Israel Police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld.

She was treated at the scene by Israeli paramedics.

“The area was cordoned off and security heightened,” Rosenfeld said. “We’re looking into the identity of the terrorist and where she came from.”

Police told the Hebrew-language Ynet site she yelled “Allahu Akbar” while charging her intended victims. They also said she was carrying a suicide note saying goodbye to her family, signed, “Martyr.”
