Will Israeli Embassies in Europe Expand Services to Include Brit Mila and Shechitah?

In response to the latest European ban on Brit Mila (circumcision), MK Nissan Slomiansky (Bayit Yehudi) has put forward the proposal to utilize the diplomatic immunity and extraterritorial status of Israel’s embassies, and allow Jewish families in Europe to perform their Brit Mila ceremonies within the Israeli embassy’s walls.

Slomiansky wrote to Deputy Foreign Minister Ze’ev Elkin stating, “We are witnessing the winds of Antisemitism again blowing through Europe, this time under the guise of humanism and health. It started with the ban on Shechitah (kosher slaughter of animals) that began in a few countries such as Sweden and Poland and it is now expanding throughout Europe. Throughout Jewish history, since the time of Abraham, Jews have given everything to fulfill Brit Mila, and we will continue, with Israel, to do so.”

Slomiansky said that Israel must let European Jews know that in every European country where Brit Mila is banned, Israel will open the embassies to them, where, on Israeli soil, they can perform Brit Mila without breaking the (local) laws.

One wonders if the Israeli embassies will soon be building Shechitah facilities too.

Maybe its just time for European Jewry to return home to Israel.

  3. short of moving to Israel it may be the only way to continue. since an Embassy is suppose to be sovereign ground for the Country it represents it would be as if you were in Israel doing your Brit Mila or Shechitah.

  5. Looks like they may have to

  6. truthseekr says:

Well, they can go ahead and use the embassies, but we’re only fooling ourselves. The antisemitism will get worse because of this; it won’t go away. The writing is on the wall- it’s time to come home and make aliyah. Israel is the only place where we can truly be Jewish, and we’re missing over half the family. We need you here, Jews of Europe. Come home now.

  7. I commented once for the juws in France, to go to Israel, I get bad anwers, they should suffer there, but the brit are making also the muslims, what about with them?, perhaps the europeans are puting this laws becouse the muslims and the jews are paying for it?.

  8. Jennifer Orange Chantrill says:

I think you are right Esteban….

  9. Jennifer Orange Chantrill says:

I meant Esteban is probably right about the measures being aimed at Muslims but directed at Jews as they KNOW the Jews will not respond to Europeans with terrorism. Maybe its cowardice on the part of the Europeans ! Understandable up to a point…Muslim terrorists are fearful enemies. Jews are good friends.

  10. Chaiya Eitan says:

Sounds like a good idea until Jews pack up and leave and come to Israel.

  11. TeachESL says:

This is only a stop gap measure.  Jews of Europe had been start putting their affairs in order and start packing and come to Israel. Their time in Europe is finished.

  12. Cathy Sherman says:

Don't despair. I just visited Netanya and marveled at the many highrise apartment buildings going up, most with ocean views. Just beautiful. Then I found out that most of the buyers were from France. So many are coming home – at least some are listening. Just ignore the negative ones.

  13. Yechiel Baum says:

would be a good idea of the Israeli Embassies take over ALL of the SHuls and Yeshivot and Restaurants and stores under its protectorate to defend Judaism.

  14. Yeremiahu Rueben Yonteff says:

    This is a wonderful idea!!!!!!!!

  15. Yeremiahu Rueben Yonteff says:

I however must insist that this is not something that should diminish the growing understanding that jews should be packing their bags and getting the hell out of Europe.
