Two family members of an Arab patient at HaEmek Medical Center attacked a security guard on Tuesday evening after expressing their dissatisfaction with medical treatment provided to a relative admitted to the hospital.

Police at the scene arrested the two attackers and took them into custody. They are to be arraigned Wednesday in Nazareth Magistrates Court, where police said they will submit a request to extend the detention.

Violence against medical personnel in Israel has become a growing concern in recent years, with a number of incidents reported.

The Histadrut Labor Union for Nurses recently settled a dispute after threatening to carry out a nationwide strike to protest the escalating violence and risk under which medical personnel have been carrying out their daily tasks.

The Health Ministry agreed to substantially increase security for medical personnel as well as to add a significant number of positions to the health care system in response to the protests.
