Ron Nachman, the Mayor of the Samarian city of Ariel, passed away after losing his battle to bladder cancer.

Nachman was Ariel’s first and only mayor, and oversaw the transformation of Ariel College to Ariel University this year. He will be buried in Ariel at 3pm.

Nachman was a member of the Knesset (Likud), but gave up his position to found Ariel, which he began in 1978 as two tents on a hilltop, after receiving advice from Army General and then-Defense Minister Moshe Dayan to settle the area.

Nachman’s family were among the founders of Ness Ziona.
