Patriot Advanced Capability-3 anti-missile defense interceptor unit launched during THAAD testing on Oct. 24 2012 by US Missile Defense Agency

The IDF announced that it launched a Patriot missile at a Syrian drone that was approaching Israeli airspace over the Golan, just after 3:00 PM on Friday. The drone was intercepted and shot down.

The drone was still over the Syrian side of the border, but flying inside the 1974 buffer zone where Syria is not allowed to send military forces.

The IDF spokesperson announced that Israel will continue to act against any breach of the 1974 buffer zone, and won’t allow any breach of Israel’s sovereignty or attempt to harm Israeli citizens.

Until recently, for the past 30 years, the Syrian border with Israel has been the quietest.
