Tanks on the Syrian border (archive)

Israeli military forces retaliated against Syria on Wednesday after two Grad missiles landed in Lake Kinneret, also known as the Sea of Galilee, earlier in the day. The Code Red rocket alert siren was triggered in the Golan Heights in response to the rocket fire.

“The IDF attacked the rocket launcher from which two rockets were fired into Israeli territory, and artillery fired at the area from which the rockets were launched,” the IDF Spokesperson said in a statement late Wednesday.

“Over the last few days, intense internal fighting has taken place in Syria adjacent to the border with Israel. The IDF will act against any attempt to compromise Israeli sovereignty and the safety of its civilians,” the Spokesperson added.
