Holocaust survivor and noted Jewish Philanthropist Sam Halpern  passed away at the age of 93.

A long time New Jersey resident, Mr. Halpern was a developer of private homes, apartments and commercial property throughout the state.  He was well known for his many philanthropic endeavors, including American Friends of Yad Vashem where he was a founding member, UJA,  Israel Bonds, The Jewish Education Center in Elizabeth, N.J., Yeshivot and other institutions in Israel and in America.

Mr. Halpern was a principal owner of the Ramada Hotel in Jerusalem and other properties in Israel, where he spent this past  Yom kippur and Sukkot holidays. 

Mr. Halpern is survived by his wife Gladys and sons Fred, David, Jack and Murray and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the JEC in Elizabeth to an overflow crowd, and burial was in Israel at Har Hamenuchot cemetery in Jerusalem.
