Also omitted from the final version are sanctions that congressional hard-liners had sought on individuals associated with SWIFT, the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications, as long as the body continues to deal with Iran's central bank.

Gaza's Hamas government has given the green light to the Palestinian Central Election Commission to begin updating voter registration data in the Gaza Strip—an electoral requirement not undertaken since the 2006 parliamentary election, in which Hamas received a majority of votes in the PA controlled parts of Judea and Samaria as well as Gaza, according to the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs. Last Sunday, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas told Turkey's state-run news agency that efforts to achieve reconciliation between his Fatah party and Hamas have reached "a deadlock."

Last Thursday the recruitment began at the "Netzach Yehuda" Haredi battalion of the Kfir Brigade, as more than 200 anxious ultra-Orthodox recruits arrived at the processing center. Last year, some 380 soldiers joined the regiment, and according to official data from the Department of Manpower, the current cycle will see an increase of 33% in the number of recruits.
