A local prosecutor told AFP that the gunman shot a man outside the school, initially using a 9-mm weapon. After it jammed, he switched to a .45-caliber weapon and entered the school grounds, where "he shot at everything he could see, children and adults, and some children were chased into the school."

A video was posted to Youtube documenting life at the school which was attacked Monday morning. Entitled, Ozar HaTorah: A Passion for Learning, the 15 minute film shows students and faculty interacting at the school, with students attesting to the quality of the Jewish and academic education.

The daughter of the principal of the Otzar HaTorah Jewish school has died as a result of wounds sustained in the shooting attack in Toulouse, France.  Official reports currently number the dead at 4.

A heavy firefight has broken out in a main district of the Syrian capital Damascus, between Free Syrian Army rebels and forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad. On Monday the sound of heavy machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades echoed throughout the night from the most heavily guarded neighborhood of the capital, which is home to a number of security facilities.

AFP has reported that a shooting attack occurred Monday outside Ozar HaTorah Jewish school in Toulouse in the southwest France. Eyewitnesses said three people have been killed. French media reported that a man riding on a black scooter opened fire on the school, killing at least two children and one adult, and wounding several others.

What do you have to do as an Egyptian Member of Parliament to earn the nickname Nose Job? Anwar El-Balkimy, of the Salafist Nour Party (that means he's sooo religious, he has one regular prayer rug and a special one for yomim tovim), told everybody he had been beaten and robbed of LE100,000 by thugs on 29 February. But according to Al Ahram, it was later discovered that his facial injuries were caused by cosmetic surgery on his nose.

Is there such a thing as too many metaphors for the triumph of the human spirit packed into one sidewalk, especially such a crowded sidewalk near Wall Street (add that, too, to the mix, wrap in an American flag and call it a day?). But I'm probably being too cynical. It's actually a heart warming story.

Al-Ashqar arrived in Switzerland on Sunday, ahead of a talk which will address the issue of Hamas members being held in Israeli jails.
