Paula Abdul to Celebrate Bat Mitzvah at Age 51 at Western Wall

Now here is a real ‘woman at the Wall.” Paula Adbul is in Israel for the first time ever and will visit the Western Wall. At the age of 51, the time finally has come for a Bat Mitzvah.

Paul Abdul arrived in Israel for a "dream come true" this week and will celebrate her Bat Mitzvah at the Western Wall - at age 51.

American singer, multi-platinum recording artist, choreographer, dancer, television personality, Grammy and two-time Emmy Award-winner Paula Abdul arrived on her first visit to Israel this week and plans to celebrate her Bat Mitzvah at the Western Wall, 39 years late.

She also will meet with President Shimon Peres on Tuesday.

Abdul was born in Los Angeles to Jewish parents. She once said, “My father is a Syrian Jew whose family immigrated to Brazil. My mother is Canadian with Jewish roots. My dream is to go to Israel for a real holiday.”

Israel’s Tourist Minister in 2006, Yitzchak Herzog, invited her to visit, which she said would be a “dream come true” but did not happen until this week. The visit may be a prelude to a singing performance next year, the Boycott Israel movement notwithstanding.

Abdul plans to visit major tourist sites in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and the Galilee and will explore Israel’s fashion, dance, culinary and music scene.

She began her  dancing career at the age of eight and became a sought-after choreographer before she began to compose music and sing. Abdul starred in the hit reality show about her life “Hey Paula” and, in recent years, has served as a judge on the popular American talent shows “American Idol” and “X-Factor.”

Mazel Tov, Paula.

  17. If Abraham circumcised at his age – anything goes… MAZAL TOV !

  18. Maurice Rodriguez says:

    Mazel Tov Paula!

  19. Is her mother Jewish or does she just have "Jewish Roots"?
“My father is a Syrian Jew whose family immigrated to Brazil. My mother is Canadian with Jewish roots."

  20. Brian Saide says:

wow! I never knew.. Mazel Tov!!!! Baruch Habah!

  21. Anonymous says:

Ellen Simpson is correct. If Paula's mother is not Jewish, Paula is not Jewish. "Jewish roots" don't count. And a Jewish woman automatically becomes a Bat Mitzvah at age 12. The ceremony/partyis optional.

  22. Rose Galston says:

Up Yours!!! Heeey UNLISTED…If she declares she's Jewish SHE IS…CASE CLOSED!!! If Kirk Douglas wanted to be Bar Mitzvahed at 80 that's his business…Who are you the "Jew Patrol"…………….another Jewish Nazi!!!!

  23. You are a bit of a prick Ch.

  24. Gilbert Carthigasu says:

    Hope she makes aliyah too

  25. God has all the plans for everyone of us. Wishing you the best in life.

  26. Ellen Francis says:

You can disagree, Rose-but calling someone a Jewish nazi is just plain perverse and nasty. Shame on you.

  27. Anonymous says:

Independent of her familial heritage, if she wishes to identify with the Jewish faith, she is welcome and I wish her a Mazal Tov, Age is immaterial.

  28. Dan Silagi says:

If she has "Jewish Roots" on her mother's side, she's halachically Jewish. She may say 100 Hail Marys a day but she's still halachically Jewish. And if her father's Jewish, and she declare's herself Jewish, she's still Jewish. For that matter, if her mother's maiden name is O'Brien and her father's name is O'Reilly, and she practices Judaism, she's Jewish. I dont' give a hoot in hell what some ortho-schmuck rabbi says. And uunlisted, who made you the "Jew Patrol," Heinrich Himmler?

  29. Geri Levine says:

You tell em Dan Silagi (smiling indeed!) Some people are so CHUTZPADIK and love being 'party POOPers'! Kol HaKavod to Paula A(btw, she's 100% JEWISH too!)
