See Secretary of State John Kerry posing for a photo with Senate and House leaders at the dedication of a bust of Winston Churchill at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., on October 30, 2013.

The bust is being placed pursuant to H. Res. 497, which was authored by House Speaker John Boehner and passed the House shortly before the 70th anniversary of Churchill’s wartime address to a joint meeting of Congress.

On Dec. 26, 1941, following the Dec. 7 Japanese surprise attack on the Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, Churchill made his first historic address to a joint session of Congress to win support for his concept of the war.

In public, he epitomized the “bulldog” fighting spirit.

In private, the strain was taking its toll, and that very evening Churchill suffered a mild heart attack.

Trust me, if he were standing there in person, sharing ideas about the future of the world, including his beloved England, with secretary of State John Kerry—that heart attack would have been upgraded to outright massive.
