Humble Pie

Now, there’s a fine exercise in the diplomatic niceties one must endure when one is prime minister of a small state in the near east, surrounded by enemies, with few friends to spare, and one’s favorite candidate has come up short.

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu (R) met on Wednesday with U.S. ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro, to congratulate him on his boss’s win the night before. Both men knew the score, both knew that if the other guy had won there would have been a genuine, huge smile on Bibi’s face, but God, as usual, insisted on His mysterious ways, and so, there you go.

If I were Bibi, then after that obligatory meeting I would have locked myself in my office with a good book and a box of Lady Godiva rich Belgian chocolates and sulked for a couple of hours.

Of all the things our side has lost last Tuesday, losing the chance for the inside track to the White House was the most painful. We’re doing OK with the Kremlin, but we desperately need someone who knows someone on Pennsylvania Avenue. Israel can’t afford four years of tense relations with the second term prez.

How’s about renaming Dizengoff Street  “Obama Boulevard”?

Actually, Yori, I think of this situation as Rabbi Akiba did when he laughed after seeing foxes on the Temple Mount while the other sages cried. He knew that prophesy was being fulfilled.
I had thought that all the talk about Obama being mentioned in Yechezkel 38:2 as Gog would not be true if Romney became president. Now, as Rabbi Akiba felt happy, so am I.
All I can say is that all you Diasporah Galutniks should be getting your little tuchus’s to Israel soon because it is the only safe place for us Jews in this world. G-d is watching over us.

    Couldna said it betta meself!

  3. President Obama is more open to talks and suggestions from Israel than most any other person in the USA. In my opinon, a win by the Republican Party would have lead to disaster for Israel. What anyone says to Obama must be well thought out, as he is perhaps the most intelligent and talented person we have ever had in the Office of President. He is also well aware of the treatment afforded Jewish and Black Peoples by much of our other religious world…and he is aware because it is the treatment that he himself has received. He will listen carefully to your honest opinions. Thank you. Tenton Nelson Horton.
