Poll Shows: Majority of Israelis Oppose Territorial Concessions

JERUSALEM – a poll conducted for the Knesset TV channel reveals that the majority of Israelis oppose territorial concessions as part of a peace agreement with the Palestinian Authority. 61% of the Israeli public believes that Israel should not relinquish land in Judea and Samaria in exchange for a peace agreement; 39% believe this is the right move to make.

The poll, published last Thursday (Mar. 27), further shows that 70% of the Israeli public do not view PA Chairman Abu-Mazzen as a partner in peace, and only 30% believe he is a potential partner.

Responding to the poll results, Peace Now Director Yariv Oppenheimer said he believes Israel still has a great opportunity in its hands. “Netanyahu is missing this chance. Unlike most of the public, I believe the blame [for the failure of the peace negotiations] rests mostly with the Israeli government.”

The Knesset passed the Referendum Law two weeks ago, requiring a referendum in a scenario in which the government decides to make territorial concessions as part of a peace agreement. In the eventuality that the Knesset itself has 80 members supporting the concessions, a referendum is not required by law.

After the passing of the law, Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu said he supported the law “simply because the decision on such an agreement must be received by the people.”

Combining the poll’s results with the Referendum Law leaves little room for territorial concessions in the current state of affairs.

  1. He is a bloody terrorist, not a partner for anything.

  2. Paul W. Howe says:

U cant trust somebody keep saying to kill u…

  3. I can’t see how 30 % can see him as a peace partner.

  4. israel has given up too much already

  5. Tony Mark says:

    Its about time The International Community now Demands that the Palsetinians start to GIVE,, They have done nothing but TAKE, ASK,& DEMAND,What have the PALESTINIANS ever GIVEN FOR THE PEACE NEGOTIATIONS???,,, NOTHING;

  6. They had their chances- after the 6 Day War, Camp David in 2000 and others which they refused.Give them zilch since Gaza is an illustration of what can happen.

  7. No territorial concession to the terrorists.
Even if, G-D forbid, Israel gives them the Old City and parts of Jerusalem, Abbas & co, will still not agree that Israel is a Jewish state, that the Jews must get out of the Holy land, and that Israel must still take in 4million Palestinians.
The Arabs know that they will never defeat Israel in a war.
So, why fight a war when you can outnuber the Jews and turn israel (what was) into an Islamic Sharia state, and all Jews will be exppelled as happened in the Arab states in 1848

  8. 100% no partner in peace

  9. We must remind the world (all seem to have no memory) that PM Barak and then PM Olmert offered Araft 98% of Judea and Samaria (Wesr Bank) abnd Arafat still got the Nobel peace prize after signing the peace agreement.on the WH lawns, with PM Barak and Peresident Clinto co-signed.Then he started the first intifada which cost hundred of Jewish lives..
    NO land to the terrorists.
They will turn the land into a firing range into Israel, destroy BG Airport, and bomb TA and Jewish Jerusalem.
    Give them land in hell.

  10. Kjeld Hesselmann says:

As numerous volumes show (most significant David Schenker’s analysis of PA governance; Washington Institute for Near East Policy, 2000): PA is unreliable and not a trustful negotiator of a future settlement of peace with any decent opponent.
The Arabs have to wake up to reality and free themselves of a victim’s role. Israel is undividable. All of Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and Golan are lost to the Arabs forever. – By the way, if somebody has forgotten, the Arabs lost the land in a war imposed by themselves.

  11. Run Guo says:

Not an inch of land is negociable, pa wants war, Israel should take this opportunity to destroy ALL pa terrorists in one hit,
