Satmar Couple Killed in Motzei Shabbat Car Crash; Unborn Baby Survives (Video)

Nachman Glauber’s rabbi told him to rush his wife to the hospital on the Sabbath after she said did not feel her unborn baby moving. The couple was killed in a crash. The baby was later delivered.

A hit-and-run driver killed a 21-year-old Satmar couple around midnight Sunday as they rushed to the hospital because of a problem in the mother’s seventh month of pregnancy, and the  baby was delivered but in serious condition.

Doctors said the baby, “Tinok ben Raizel.” probably will survive. Already termed a “miracle baby,” he will be named after his father, according to friends of the family.

The tragedy has stunned the Satmar community in Williamsburg, where Nachman and Raizel Glauber were expecting their first child. Raizel complained that she could not feel her unborn baby’s movements, and the couple hired a cab to rush them to the hospital.

They never arrived alive.

A BMW crashed into the taxi and fled the scene, leaving the couple dead and the cab driver injured but in stable condition.

The impact of the crash threw Raizel out of the vehicle. Rescue workers had to cut open the cab in order to extricate the father, and only afterwards did they notice the mother lying under a parked tractor trailer. Medics rushed her to the hospital, where doctors delivered the baby boy from the womb of the mother, who was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

The young Glaubers were buried Sunday afternoon.

Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver.

This is the most anti – religious article on this story today so far, from a so – called 'Jewish' Website! This accident happened at 12:30am last night! Long after and nothing to do with Shabbat, it was closer to Sunday morning! Shame on you, every other News Site Worldwide, has written better, nicer, and more sensitive than this!

Sad story. To the author of the article: it is not called an embryo, it's an unborn baby or fetus. check here stages of development. this is 7 months, it's a baby born prematurely. You should be editing this: http://www.livestrong.com/article/172154-stages-of-unborn-child-development/.

I have read the story and the comments. regardless of whether or not it was shabbat is not really important right now. the bottom line, 2 people lost their lives in a very tragic event. they were trying to potentially save the life of their unborn child and lost their lives instead. and as a further update, the baby has also died. so whether it is religiously accurate or medically accurate, does that really matter? baruch dayan emet.

  10. As many of you may have read or heard, the baby boy did not survive after all. He died this morning. No words to describe this tragedy.
