Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked has announced that the Nominations Committee will appoint a haredi Orthodox female candidate for the next panel of judges.

Shaked made the announcement Monday evening at an event for the Kikar Shabbat website and ‘Mama’ magazine.

At present no haredi Orthodox Israeli judge is sitting on the bench, although a Hassidic female justice is already serving in New York City.

“I see before me a special challenge in the appointment of a female haredi judge and I intend to carry that out in the next round of appointments,” Shaked said.
