House Majority Leader Eric Cantor threw his weight behind Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney on Sunday, endorsing the former Massachusetts Governor for president.

Cantor, the only Jewish Republican in Congress, gave his endorsement on NBC’s Meet The Press: “He’s the only one in the race who knows how to create jobs. He is by far the right man for this historic election and the only one in the race who has put forward these kind of solutions and I believe he can beat Barack Obama.

“Seeking to dispel rumors that he is in the running to be Romney’s running mate, Cantor said he was not interested in being the Republican’ party’s Vice Presidential nominee. “I’m privileged to represent the people of Virginia in Congress, this is not about that. I’m looking forward to serving in that capacity under Mitt Romney as president.”

Cantor, who was considered by 2008 Republican nominee Senator John McCain as a possible running mate, is the most prominent congressman yet to offer an endorsement of Romney.
