Israeli media outlet Walla speculated that Jordan is the most likely country to have shared with the highly classified information President Trump later handed over to the Russians, thus creating a big wall—of suspicion and mistrust—between the White House and the Hashemite Kingdom.
According to the Washington Post on Monday, and confirmed by the New York Times, President Donald Trump disclosed highly classified information to Russia’s foreign minister and the Russian Ambassador to the US about an ISIS operation being planned in Syria. The reports were based on current and former US Intelligence officials, and appear to be reliable. Reliable enough for Senator Bob Corker (R-TN), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, to suggest Trump’s White House is in a “downward spiral.”
The intelligence that Trump shared in an Oval Office meeting last week with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Ambassador Sergei Kislyak – from which American photographers were barred, but a TASS photographer managed to squeeze through – had been provided by a Middle Eastern ally of the US with access to the Caliphate, according to the sources cited by the Post and the Times. The intelligence was “code word classified,” with a code that meant it was not to be made available to parts of the US Administration, as well as to some US allies, never mind the Russian “evil empire.”
Trump was actually boasting about his knowledge of the planned threats, telling his Russian guests that he was being briefed on “great intel every day,” the Post cited an Intelligence official.
The ISIS intelligence pinpointed a city in Syria where the terror organization was planning a grand scale attack. Intelligence experts speaking to US media Monday night suggested two disturbing outcomes of the Trump info-share: one, that the Russians will surely pass on the information to their two allies, Syria and Iran; and, two, that by citing a specific city the Russians and Iranians should be able to “reverse-engineer” the data to expose the agent or agents who reported it, thus burning them, figuratively or literally.
According to Walla, speculations regarding the identity of the country whose intelligence agent was unlucky enough to be burned by President Trump include Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, but the most likely victim of the president’s show-and-tell is Jordan. This educated guess is based on the fact that Trump was scheduled to speak on the phone later on the same day with King Abdullah II of Jordan, and so had probably been briefed earlier in the day in preparation for the call.
