“President Putin, Russia and Iran are responsible for backing Animal Assad,” President Donald Trump tweeted Sunday morning, which was his strongest and most direct attack on the Russian president. He added, “Big price to pay. Open area immediately for medical help and verification. Another humanitarian disaster for no reason whatsoever. SICK!”

Trump described his impressions of the news from Syria: “Many dead, including women and children, in mindless CHEMICAL attack in Syria. Area of atrocity is in lockdown and encircled by Syrian Army, making it completely inaccessible to outside world.”

He then blamed his predecessor for the situation, and was absolutely on the money: “If President Obama had crossed his stated Red Line In The Sand, the Syrian disaster would have ended long ago! Animal Assad would have been history!”

Quite likely, although Trump will probably have to walk back his declaration regarding his desire to pull US troupes from their position protecting the Syrian rebels and the Kurdish population from Turkey, Iran, and Russia.

Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry has rejected Saturday’s reports on the chemical attack carried out by the Syrian government forces in the town of Douma outside Damascus.

“Fake news on the use of chlorine or other chemical agents by the government forces continue,” the ministry said in a statement. “Another piece of such fabricated information on the alleged chemical attack in Douma emerged yesterday.”

Earlier on Sunday, the Head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Warring Sides in Syria, Major General Yuri Yevtushenko, insisted the West used the allegations of a chemical attack to disrupt an operation beginning on Sunday on evacuating from the Douma area members of the Jaysh al-Islam group.

Yevtushenko said the White Helmets group, which disseminated the news of the chemical attack that killed 150 and injured 1,000, including children, is “widely known for its fake news.”
