Allan Marks, 97, and Lillian Marks, 95, tie the knot

It’s a very old joke which I kept thinking about while watching this video. You absolutely have to, also, or you’ll hate yourself afterwards. Seriously, they look so CUTE together, short, wrinkled, with 192 years between them and such sweet love.

Incidentally, their marriage breaks the Guinness World Record for oldest combined age of a couple on their wedding day.

Fine, so instead of a rabbi, Riverside County Deputy Commissioner Yvonne Cruz officiated; and you and I probably wouldn’t go near the schmorgesbord table (maybe just a saltine); and there was no Chuppah; and the groom distinctly didn’t break a glass; and who knows what else – but they look so CUTE together… I’m schmelking pitchefkrantzes just looking at it…

According to the Deseret Sun, the couple — a widow and widower who both grew up on the East Coast — first met at Temple Isaiah in Palm Springs. It was 18 years ago on Yom Kippur (the holiest Jewish holiday, even the Deseret Sun says so).

Allan, a retired veterinarian from Brooklyn, complimented the then-78-year-old lady’s dress. So Lillian, a retired paralegal from Boston, told him it was “just an old rag” but liked the compliment.

“I’m not deeply religious, but I just think it was meant to be,” Lillian said. “I didn’t want a relationship — I enjoyed my freedom — but he got me.”

The couple have been “living together in sin” ever since, Lillian joked, but never took the time out of their busy schedules to have a ceremony.

After their two-minute ceremony in a small room in the county office, the couple ate lunch at a nearby International House of Pancakes and returned to their Palm Springs condominium. There, Lillian helped Allan fix his hearing aid, and he affectionately called her “mama.”

Let’s hope they’ll live a long and happy life and never get baptized posthumously by those crazy Mormons out there…
