DePaul Denies Tenure to Finkelstein
Shlomo Greenwald, Jewish Press Staff Reporter
Posted Jun 13 2007 Norman Finkelstein - the DePaul University professor who has called Eli Wiesel the "clown of the Holocaust circus," compared Alan Dershowitz to Adolph Eichmann, and said that most Holocaust survivors are "bogus" - was denied tenure by the Chicago university last week in a 4-3 decision by a faculty panel. In a letter to Finkelstein, DePaul's president, the Rev. Dennis Holtschneider, said that the denial was based on concerns over Finkelstein's scholarship and his "unprofessional personal attacks."Alan Dershowitz, a professor of law at Harvard University, had come out publicly against tenure for Finkelstein. His statements were denounced by many academics as an outside influence over an internal university matter. Dershowitz defended his actions by saying that a DePaul faculty member had invited his input. In a public statement, Holtschneider said the outside attention that the case had garnered "had no impact on either the process or the outcome of this case."
