A book about Rosh Hashanah is now experiencing its first Rosh Hashanah. The Lonely Ayil by Rochell Weisfogel is a child-friendly book – for age toddlers to grade 2 – that imparts a great lesson in chesed and simcha. It revolves around an ayil (ram) that joyfully gives up its horns to a poor shul that has no money to buy a new shofar.

The book has wonderful colorful illustrations with wording that small children can easily follow. My two-and-a-half-year-old grandson has me reading it to him repeatedly.

Rochell Weisfogel, an educator par excellence, has been repeating this story to her kindergarten class for 26 years. Now, it is in book form for a wider audience to enjoy.
