Beloved nutritional counselor a.k.a. naturopath Shoshanna Harrari lives in Israel and hops around the globe helping clients to live healthier lives. With an impressive record for reversing disease, the author is an in-demand speaker and consultant. Her recipe book is a tool for resting her voice and a great addition to many kitchens. Photos by Shoshanna’s husband Micah Harrari show the bounty of blessings upon our plates, if only we’ll put them there.

The Garden of Spices; Recipes for Life opens with a chapter entitled Spices. It offers a checklist of seeds, powders and leaves with explanations of the health issues they can resolve from hair loss to constipation. Breath fresheners and taste/smell enhancers included, these spices are readily available and underappreciated.

Specific foods are presented as life-sustaining medicines and gourmet treats. Learn how to grow your own sprouts (small children have the requisite skills so adults surely can do this). Bake your own crackers. Mix your homemade dressings and feast upon palate-pleasing burgers, soups, salads and desserts. When you add the Super Foods to your diet your energy levels will soar as do those of Shoshanna’s nutritional guidance clients.

The 307-page paperback is a bit bulky and hard to position on kitchen counters. Consider placing clear plastic book protectors over open pages to keep them clean and clear of drips, drops and splatters. Mine goes into a deep wicker basket that holds the book snugly on a different counter while keeping the page I need open for viewing.
