The RASG Hebrew Academy’s 66th Annual Event was held on Sunday night, December 22. The yearly dinner is held to raise scholarship funds that provide tuition assistance to approximately 60 percent of the Hebrew Academy student body.
This year the gala was held in the school’s new gymnasium, which was converted into a magical ballroom. The event included such recognizable names as Hebrew Academy alumni and ambassador of Israel to the United States Ron Dermer; bestselling author Rabbi Shmuley Boteach; Miami Beach Mayor Phillip Levine; and Miami Beach commissioners Ed Tobin, Michael Greico, and Mickey Steinberg.
In his inspirational keynote address, Dermer reminded the audience that 100 generations of Jews have dreamed of returning to Israel and now three generations have fulfilled that dream.
The Hebrew Academy Gymnasium Founders’ Club was recognized for all its contributions. The Community Service Award was awarded to activist and philanthropist Ray Breslin. Mark Herskowitz received the Keter Tzedakah Award, and the Excellence in Education Awards went to Hebrew Academy teachers Raquel Benzaquen and Jenny Ohana.
