Chabad of South Broward in Hallandale Beach celebrated Purim with more than a thousand people participating in five megillah readings at its headquarters, 400 people took part in the “Miami Heat Purim Feast,” and over 2,000 seniors in nursing homes and patients in hospitals throughout South Broward received shalach manos Purim gift bags.
This was the 34th consecutive year Chabad of South Broward orchestrated a massive campaign to bring the joy of Purim to people unable to go to a synagogue for the joyous holiday.
“We did what the Lubavitcher Rebbe told us to do – we went out of our way to bring the joy of Purim to people who without our efforts would have been forgotten,” said Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus, Chabad’s executive vice president.
With twelve Chabad Centers in the area (a thirteenth will open shortly), Chabad of South Broward and its branches had some 3,000 people attend its megillah readings, along with readings in hospitals and nursing homes.
