Chabad of South Broward in Hallendale has experienced another incredible summer. They recently ran Camp Gan Israel, a seven-week day camp for boys and girls. The camp hosted three hundred children who rated the program a fun-filled success.
Chabad of South Broward maintains a full schedule of summer activities. There are three Shachris minyanim at 6:45, 7:45 and 9:15 a.m. Daily classes include Ayin Beis at 6:15 a.m.; Rambam at 6:30 a.m.; and Mishnayos at 9 a.m., followed by Daf Yomi. There are many public, private and “Lunch ‘N Learn” classes throughout the week as well as mini-classes between daily Minchah/Maariv services.
Chabad’s executive vice president Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus and co-director Mrs. Goldie Tennenhaus are excited about the upcoming school year. The organization’s educational programs include Chai Tots Preschool, Hallendale Hebrew School and Chaya Aydel Seminary.
Rabbi Tennenhaus said the center’s facility is getting too small for all the programs and it’s likely a second and third floor will have to be added to the buildings. Rebbetzen Goldie recalls a letter from the Lubavitcher Rebbe from the mid-1980s. The Rebbe’s berachah was that “There should be tremendous growth with the children of the community.” At that time, the only children in Hallendale were the children of the Tennenhaus family.
