JAFCO hosted its 6th annual In My Shoes Luncheon at the Boca West Country Club to help the community understand what it’s like to raise a child with developmental disabilities. The event raised more than $120,000 to benefit the programs and services offered at the organization’s Children’s Ability Center in Sunrise.

“Real Housewives of New Jersey” star Siggy Flicker and Jason Solodkin served as co-emcees for the event. Singer Johnny Orr was the surprise entertainment. He sang his hit “I’ll Get By,” a heartfelt song about having a child with autism.

The luncheon honored families in the community and helped attendees understand the experience of being “in the shoes” of those who are faced with this challenge. Kim Fetterman, Lisa Rice, and Lori Soldokin chaired the event with Jenn Betesh and Jill Kravitz.

Kim Freeman spoke to the audience about her own personal journey as a mom who uses the Children’s Ability Center. Her son was diagnosed with autism and the center has been an invaluable resource for him and the entire family.

“One of the most important mission the we have at the Children’s Ability Center is showing families raising a child with developmental disabilities that they are not alone,” said Sarah Franco, JAFCO executive director, “This luncheon is an extension of that theme. Together, as a community, we are here for those families and children.”

One of the highlights of the afternoon was the Ribbon of Hope Ceremony. At each table guests took hold of one yellow ribbon, uniting them all and forming a circle of love and hope. During the ceremony, the entire room emotionally pledged their support to parents who have the challenging task of raising a child with a developmental disability.
