Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez worked with Rabbi Pinchas Weberman and the eruv committee to broaden the eruv in South Florida. The expansion was facilitated as a sechiras reshus, a symbolic rental of domain, which allows the Jewish community to carry on Shabbat in an enclosed area. The 99-year lease was purchased for one dollar.
