The Greater Miami Jewish Federation announced $50,000 in grants for new or expanded programs that aim to achieve social, economic, religious, and political equality for Jewish women and girls in Miami. Known collectively as the 2016 Women’s Impact Initiative, these grants were chosen from a wide array of local Jewish agencies and organizations.

Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center’s “Women and Opportunities of Jewish Leadership,” a program to inspire young women to understand their roles as Jewish leaders for themselves, families, and communities.

Chai Lifeline, to launch “Women’s Wellness Experience,” a one-day health fair on issues including advances in cancer treatments, early detection of breast and ovarian cancer, and Jewish genetic diseases.

Hadassah of Greater Miami, to support, “Know Your Worth,” a program of literacy training to empower women for their personal and financial futures.

RASG Hebrew Academy, to introduce “Va’ Ani Tefillati,” a program to inspire high school girls through interactive prayer, and to develop a curriculum to be used in school.

Jewish Community Services of South Florida (JCS) for two programs: “Jewish Women in Need,” to provide services for unemployed and/or low income Jewish women, and “Safety Smarts,” a sexual-abuse prevention program for girls in Orthodox middle schools in Miami Beach and North-Dade neighborhoods.

The Galbut Family Miami Beach Jewish Community Center, to introduce “Rosh Chodesh (New Month): It’s a Girl Thing,” to encourage strength, leadership, and spiritual commitment to Jewish life.

National Council of Synagogue Youth (NCSY), to support “GIVE Ambassadors,” a leadership training course for 30 teenage girls to establish their commitment to community service.

Scheck Hillel Community School to support “Girls Building STEAM,” the after-school club for girls in grades 3-5, which encourages interest in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.

Sharsheret, to provide outreach, education, and peer support to ultra-Orthodox Jewish women in areas of breast health and breast cancer support.

University of Miami Hillel, to present “Reclaiming Our Inheritance: Women’s Leadership in Jewish Text and Media,” bringing together 160 young Jewish women to learn about women’s leadership in the Talmud and in society today.
