The Second Annual Fashion Show and Sale - run by the Weinbaum Yeshiva High School (WYHS), a religious Zionist high school in Boca Raton, Florida - was a grand success. Organized by seniors, Alix Greenberger and Elizabeth Markovitch, the event was run to demonstrate that being fashionable and modest is possible.

everal weeks ago an 18-foot chunk from the wing of a cargo plane broke off and fell out of the clear blue sky. The plane had been flying overhead en route to the nearby Miami International Airport. The debris crashed in a mall parking lot. Miraculously, there were no casualties.

The Chief Rabbi of Israel, the Rishon L'Tzion,Rabbi Shlomo Amar, visited the Chaya Aydel Seminary in Hallandale Beach, on Thursday, January 21. Rabbi Amar spoke about the seminary year and blessed the students and teachers.

A surprise flood on Thursday night, December 17 and early Friday morning December 18, has destroyed the Chabad Preschool and the main offices of Chabad of South Broward Headquarters. The flood that came without any warning damaged a relatively small geographic area, specifically Hallandale Beach and the coastal cities nearby.

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez was recently involved in a controversy causing outrage throughout the community. The mayor's "State of the County" address spoke of the dismal economy and warned of the necessity of deep budget cuts. Shortly after the speech, the mayor acted. He gave generous raises to members of his staff.

Three mikvaot for the physically challenged will open on Sunday, September 6, in Hallandale, Florida. It is the first mikveh project of this nature in Florida. The endeavor provides special ramps, prep rooms, and hydraulic lifts that will make the mikveh experience pleasant and dignified for a significant segment of South Florida's Jewish population.

A wedding was recently celebrated in West Palm Beach, Florida. The groom, 93 year-old Ebenezer Rose married 89 year-old Monica Hayden. The bride wore a sparkling tiara and a big smile. Friends and relatives toasted the happy couple with champagne.

South Florida was recently inundated with weeks of torrential rain. The downside was that the weather ruined the much-anticipated Memorial Day weekend. The upside was that the storms made a dent in the terrible drought conditions that had plagued the area. Sometimes it is easier to see the wisdom of the old adage, "Every cloud has a silver lining."

The local Jewish community recently received a shock. Many that attended rallies and protests regarding the Gaza War were stunned. Counter-demonstrators made egregious and hateful statements, some referring to the Holocaust. They were physically violent. The actions did not seem to cause any outrage in the general community.
