Goldman was also close to the late Jewish activist and former Knesset member Rabbi Meir Kahane. In a speech in Washington in 1988, Rabbi Kahane said that when he is sitting in a corner of the Next World studying Torah, he would want Peter Goldman to his chavrusa. The heart-wrenching pathos of Goldman’s decision to divorce, l’shem shamayim (for the sake of heaven), affected Rabbi Kahane. He often said Peter Goldman was the person he respected most of all.

The feeling was mutual. Goldman says, “Rabbi Kahane was brilliant and his insights have proven to be correct…. Rabbi Kahane was a great man. I feel unworthy.”
