Mrs. Sharon Ciment (left) and administrative assistant Norma Reiz get into the Pink Day spirit.

The 8th grade girls of the Hebrew Academy Charlotte Rohr Middle School recently held a Pink ManiCure event to raise money for Sharsheret. Sharsheret supports the treatment of breast and ovarian cancer, and provides emotional support for patients and their families. Spearheaded by Mrs. Sharon Ciment, the girls converted their classroom into a pink spa – decorated with ribbon and festive décor throughout. Raffle tickets and food were sold and nearly $10,000 was raised for the cause.

The girls provided “professional” ManiCures to the student body, parents, faculty and community members throughout the day. Mrs. Ciment, the grade 8 Judaica teacher, shared, “We are a people of compassion and kindness. Events such as this one define us. The girls and the community truly rose to the occasion and they exceeded our wildest expectations.”

Participating in ManiCures during the school day may feel like a break from learning, but the intended message to the students was loud and clear. Learning and chesed come in all forms, and can be fun.
