Ohev Shalom Congregation of Miami Beach held a Selichot night melavah malka on Saturday, August 31. A delicious dairy buffet was served. Pizzas, salads, tuna, chips, dips and ice cream made up the perfect menu.

Rabbi David Meyer gave an inspirational talk on many of the concepts of Rosh Hashanah. Shimon Braun offered a running translation in Spanish as Rabbi Meyer spoke.

Rabbi Pinchas A. Weberman, spiritual leader of the synagogue, began the service at 1 a.m. Rabbi Weberman gave a captivating d’var Torah. The service was an inspirational start to the beginning of the 5774 Jewish new-year period.

Rabbi Weberman is known as the senior rabbi of Miami Beach and is the president of the Orthodox Rabbinical Council of South Florida. He is also the chaplain to the Miami Beach and Miami-Dade Police Departments and is the liaison between law enforcement and the South Florida Jewish community.

The rabbi has served as visiting professor at Landau Lubavitch Center, Talmudic University of Florida, Toras Chaim, The Kollel at Bal Harbour and Beis Yaakov of Miami. He is author of two books The Rabbi’s Message: Modern Thoughts on Ancient Philosophy and The Rabbi’s Message: Around the Year.
