Three Mikvaot To Open For Physically Challenged In South Florida

Three mikvaot for the physically challenged will open on Sunday, September 6, in Hallandale, Florida.  It is the first mikveh project of this nature in Florida.  The endeavor provides special ramps, prep rooms, and hydraulic lifts that will make the mikveh experience pleasant and dignified for a significant segment of South Florida’s Jewish population.

“Until now, people with disabilities either endured extreme hardships when using a mikveh, or stopped fulfilling this ancient mitzvah due to the inconvenience and humiliation,” said Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus, Chabad’s executive vice president, who spearheaded this project several years ago.

The mikveh dedications will take place at the 28th Annual Dinner of Chabad of South Broward, at the headquarters of Chabad of South Broward, located at 1295 E Hallandale Beach Blvd.  Chabad of South Broward is home to Congregation Levi Yitzchok- Lubavitch, Broward’s first Chabad Synagogue, the Hallandale Hebrew School, the Chai Tots Preschool, the Chaya Aydel Seminary, the summer-and-winter Camp Gan Israel, and the Kollel for Businessmen and Professionals.

The general mikveh project will be named, “Mei Menachem-Mikveh Israel,” dedicated in honor of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M Schneerson, and in memory of Rabbi Yisroel Tennenhaus, brother of Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus, who passed away earlier this year.

The women’s mikveh, “The Elana Leah Women’s Mikveh,” is being dedicated in honor of the complete and speedy recovery of Elana Kasle, a student of the Chaya Aydel Seminary, who was seriously injured on December 23, 2007, by a car on Hallandale Beach Blvd. She still needs everyone’s prayers. Her full name is Elana Leah bas Shaindel Rochel.

The men’s mikveh will be named “The Yoseph Mordechai Men’s Mikveh.” It is being dedicated in memory of Reb Yoseph Fellig, father of Rebbetzin Goldie Tennenhaus.
