Rabbi Pinchas Gruman is the new rav of the Minyan at Aish Tamid.

One of the most respected Torah figures in Los Angeles, Rabbi Gruman has been described as “The Los Angeles link in the mesorah of the yeshiva world” by Rabbi Nachum Sauer. As a talmid in Lakewood in the 1950s, Rabbi Gruman received semicha from Rav Aaron Kotler, zt”l, and Rav Moshe Feinstein, zt”l. Soon after, he moved to Los Angeles.

Rabbi Gruman has a rich history of service to the Los Angeles Jewish community. He revived the Rabbinical Council of California and established a community kashrus committee, on which he served as chairman for 13 years. In addition, he served with distinction for 40 years as the rabbi of the Young Israel of Los Angeles and of Bais Naftali, and also co-founded the Young Israel of Hancock Park. Rabbi Gruman was the master rebbe and principal of Rambam for 20 years. To his credit, the school’s graduates have laid the foundation for Los Angeles’s Torah-observant community. He has continued in the same vein for the past 23 years at Bais Yaakov of Los Angeles.

The Minyan at Aish Tamid, located in the Fairfax/La Brea community of Los Angeles, was founded by Rabbi Avi Leibovic and Dr. Elly Berlin for the purpose of creating a warm and nurturing environment; facilitating spiritual growth and a connection to Hashem through tefillah and zimrah; divrei chizuk; comprehensive Torah learning; and mutual communal support. In addition to the existing Shabbos youth groups, the shul is planning to add weekly shiurim for adults and more educational programming for children. And the formation of a shul sisterhood is expected to foster more family involvement in learning and other activities.
