Zion Orphanage Jerusalem Still Growing

Members of the Los Angeles Jewish community recently attended a reception for the Zion Orphanage Jerusalem. Founded over 100 years ago by Rabbi Abraham Yochanan Blumenthal, the orphanage started out as home to Israel’s homeless children.

Anshe Emes Honors The Wilsteins

More than 150 members of the Los Angeles Jewish community recently attended the 2011 Anshe Emes Dessert Reception at the Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel to honor David and Susan Wilstein for their lifetime of dedication and commitment to Los Angeles and the Torah way of life. As one attendee was overheard to say: “It’s so wonderful that you’re honoring Dave and Sue. They’re really extraordinary people.”

Winkler Reappointed

Los Angeles County Commissioner Howard Winkler was unanimously reappointed by the L. A. County Board of Supervisors to the Los Angeles County Commission on Alcohol & Other Drugs (CCAOD) for a term that extends to the end of 2014.

Kamenitzer Rosh Hayeshiva In L.A.

The Los Angeles Jewish community recently welcomed the Kamenitz-Yerushalayim rosh hayeshiva, HaRav Yitzchok Scheiner, for a five-day visit. Shlomo Yehuda Rechnitz and his wife were the rosh hayeshiva’s hosts.

Reception For Rep. Berkley

Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-Nevada) was a special luncheon guest over Chol HaMoed Sukkos in the Los Angeles sukkah of Barbara and Stanley Treitel. Berkley, a U.S. Senate candidate, thanked the Jewish community for inviting her and hearing her views on Israel and related matters.

Reception For Lakewood Rosh Yeshiva

Lakewood's Rosh Hayeshiva Rabbi Malkiel Kotler visited L.A. recently to attend the yearly reception for Beth Medrash Govoha (the Lakewood Yeshiva). Following an established tradition of 25 years, the family of Dr. Nechemia Abbott, a"h, hosted the annual gathering for the yeshiva.
