Events In The West: On Sunday, June 2, Dr. Yaakov Ulano of Laniado Hospital will be speaking on “Preparing Ourselves for Major Catastrophes” at Shaarey Zedek in Valley Village… On Thursday, June 6, Beth Jacob Beverly Hills hosts the Doctors’ Medical Forum – for doctors and health professionals only. Speakers include doctors from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Laniado Hospital, along with the coordinator of Emergency Task Force at Laniado Hospital. They will speak on the halachic and moral dilemmas for Israeli doctors and soldiers… On June 14-15, EDOS hosts scholars-in-residence Rabbi Joel Tessler, senior rabbi of Beth Sholom Congregation in Potomac, Maryland, past vice president of the Rabbinical Council of America, and a member of its Executive Board. Also speaking will be Rebbetzin Aviva Tessler, a licensed marriage and family therapist, teacher and youth director at Beth Sholom… On August 20, Itzhak Perlman, Cantor Yitzchak Meir Helfgot and the Klezmer Conservatory Band will perform at the Hollywood Bowl. Some of the L.A. shuls have purchased tickets and are providing bus service.

Kosher News: Schwartz Bakeries, Schwartz Circa Restaurants and catering are now under the supervision of Kehilla Kosher… Elite Cuisine is also now under the supervision of Kehilla Kosher.

Women Only: On Tuesday, June 11, students at Torah High in San Diego will present “Willy Wonka” at the David and Dorothea Garfield Theatre at the JCC.

Jews Rule: In the recent Los Angeles city elections, three Jews won the top jobs. Eric Garcetti, a longtime city councilman, is now L.A.’s first Jewish mayor. Ron Galperin won the city controller’s race. He’s the son of Holocaust survivors who fought in Israel’s 1948 War of Independence. Galperin also attended a Jewish day school. And former California state assemblyman Mike Feuer, a longtime Jewish community activist, is now the city’s district attorney.
