L.A. Changes: Maimonides Academy, located near Beverly Center, is constructing a new building. Plans call for students from grades 4-8 to move to what has been the Chabad girls’ high school building on Pico Blvd. until the new building is completed. Lower grade students will utilize the original Maimonides building during the construction. The Chabad girls’ school is planning to move to a Beverly Hills location… The RCC, hit hard by the recent scandal involving Doheny Meats, is now involved in a new controversy for continuing to certify bakeries and stores that are open on Shabbos. The RCC recently announced that the Yogurtland store on La Cienega (across from Beverly Center), which is now the fourth store open on Shabbos, is under its certification… As for Doheny Meats, those who often walk by the store report extensive on-site renovations in progress. None of the potential principals are willing to comment as to what’s coming to the location – and when… 613 The Mitzvah Store on Pico Blvd. has opened a second store on Beverly Blvd.… Adas Torah will soon be moving into what was formerly a large furniture store on Pico Blvd.

Events In The West: June 29 is Jewish Community Day at Petco Park in San Diego The Autry Museum in Griffith Park recently opened an exhibit on Jews in the Los Angeles Mosaic. You can explore how a growing Jewish community settled, prospered and helped shape the economy, politics and culture of a city, and how the diversity and dynamism of Los Angeles have transformed the local Jewish community for the past 160 years. See how Jews helped change the region by recruiting the Brooklyn Dodgers, inventing the Barbie doll, and joining other Angelenos in electing the city’s first African American mayor. The exhibit features more than 150 stories, documents, objects and images of family, community and society. It runs through January 5, 2014.
