Soille Hebrew Day School recently hosted 100 10th grade students from High Tech High in San Diego for a special Holocaust remembrance program. Headmaster Rabbi Simcha Weiser cited the recent anti-Semitic shooting in Overland Park as an example of how important it is that we shape our daily lives and attitudes around the significance of our Jewishness. Mendel Flaster, a survivor who was liberated 69 years ago, shared his personal experience in caring for others even in humanity’s darkest days. Rabbi Chaim Hollander, spiritual leader of Young Israel San Diego and Judaic Studies teacher at Soille, reviewed the history of Nazism through the prism of bullying behavior and stressed everyone’s opportunity to speak out against injustice.
