Now, our home office serves as a clearing house of sorts. A wonderful woman from Plainview brings bags of brand new socks, t-shirt and boxers on a monthly basis. My job is to get it all to Israel. That, along with the toiletries I collect, keeps me very busy. It is true that some people run the other way when they see me coming. I am no longer the person they once knew, who didn’t like to ask anyone for a favor. For the mitzvah, I have found my chutzpah. Instead of getting involved when there is a crisis, I have found a way to ensure that the precious soldiers of the IDF are on my mind daily. There isn’t a day in which I am not working on some level towards my goal of sending the next bag. The reward is that weekly I hear from Shira that we are making a difference. I can’t give that up. It is in fact, an obsession.
