The Perfect Meal

The other day my son called me from yeshiva ? just to chat. As usual, I asked about his day and of course, like any good mother ? “How's the food?” His response was “Pretty good,” but that there are days that he doesn't eat supper because he doesn't like what they serve. I felt bad, but what could I do? He doesn't have a refrigerator, microwave or oven, so I can't send him food from home or even packaged meals ? can I?

You're planning a vacation for your family. Along with deciding where you are going and what hotel to stay in, you have to worry about food. As we all know, there aren't always kosher restaurants in the area you choose for vacation. So, it's either tuna and crackers or frozen take-out meals that are only good if you have a microwave and refrigerator in the room. Those are the only options ? aren't they?

Happily, there is now a wonderful solution to both of these problems and many others. Euro-Cut, Inc., a New Jersey-based company, has been working for a number of years now on a new innovation in Kosher food.

The result is La Briute ? the meal that heats itself. Available now in three varieties ? parve vegetable stew, chicken primavera/noodles and beef stew with vegetables ? it is an amazing product.

Last week in our office, we tried the vegetable stew. We followed the directions on the package to the letter, and 14 minutes after we opened the box we were eating a healthy, nutritious, very filling and great tasting meal. You really have to see it for yourself to fully understand, but in short, the meal comes with a flameless, self-heating tray. The package also includes utensils, napkin, salt, and pepper ? what more could you ask for?

Coming soon, from Euro-Cut, are pasta dishes, mashed potatoes and turkey, and breakfast items ? rumor has it pancakes with real maple syrup.

La Briute meals are available in local kosher groceries ? I saw them in both Landau and Paperific in Brooklyn, and on the web at www.labriutemeals.com. The meals are glatt kosher under the supervision of the Kof-K and HaRav Shia Katz, the Magriv Rav.

By the way, I sent one to yeshiva with my son and two days later he called home and asked for five cases. For me that was the best recommendation of all.

Coming next month ? reviews of products featured at Kosherfest '02.
