Crispy snacks, chewy nougat, and an assortment of cookies that will delight your taste buds. If we were giving awards for the best snacks, these three companies would each take home first prize.

Glenny's (manufactured by Glenn Foods, OU, OK, Kof-K parve and dairy) has a line of snacks that you must try. Do you like potato chips, but hate the fat and calories? Then try their soy chips. Available in four flavors ? onion garlic, apple and cinnamon, lightly salted and BBQ, they are so good, even my finicky 8-year old enjoys them. Want something with a little more crunch? Try their potato crisps. They come in a variety of flavors, but our favorites were Tangy Ketchup (which between me and you will give those other ketchup chips a run for their money) and Creamy Ranch. They also have a line of Soy Crispy Wispys, which are a very light snack that we enjoyed in the zesty veggie flavor. All of their snacks can be found in your local health food store, some kosher groceries and supermarket chains. If you can't find them ? ask the store manager or contact the company at [email protected].

Sally Williams's nougats (manufactured by Sally Williams Fine Foods OU parve) are the kind of treat you don't see every day ? honey nougat that is melt-in-your-mouth delicious. As a matter of fact an editor at Food and Wine magazine referred to it as “the most sophisticated marshmallow you've ever tasted.” We started with the almond and were amazed, then tried the macadamia and were delighted. By the time we got to the hazelnut, we were speechless. As a matter of fact, my only complaint about this product is that it comes in only four flavors. Try the cashew and you will understand what I mean. To the best of my knowledge they are available only in specialty store or direct from the distributor, but they are so worth picking up the phone to order. You can email them at [email protected] or find them on the web at www.sallywilliamsfinefoods.com.

Brent & Sam's Handmade Cookies (OU d) are the kind of cookies you try once and never forget. Everyone who tried them here in our office raved for days. One reviewer actually told me that his mouth watered just thinking about eating them. They come in eight flavors with a five-month shelf life. Among the favorites here were Oatmeal Raisin Pecan, which had a very natural not too sweet taste, with the raisins being the perfect complement to the pecan and oatmeal. The chocolate chip were the best we ever tasted. The Toffee Pecan had just a hint of ginger that gave it a wonderful flavor. We even enjoyed the key lime white chocolate. When I first spoke with the company, their customer service rep assured me that we would love his cookies; he said everyone does ? and I have to admit, he was right. You can visit them on the web at www.perfectcookie.com.

Next week ? perfection in gefilte fish.
