* First produced in Sarasota Springs in the 1850s, the potato chip has become as American as baseball and apple pie. It is snack that goes well with tuna on rye, a cold bottle of beer, or even a slice of pizza. Potato chips come in all shapes and sizes and are produced in a variety of different ways.

At Good Health Natural Foods (Kof-K, Triangle K, parve) they have created a line of chips made with 100% all natural ingredients and 100% taste. The Olive Oil chips have 30% less fat than regular chips, but are packed with more flavors. The potato is cut into thicker slices than regular chips and has a very satisfying crunch.

We tried the cracked pepper, the rosemary, and the garlic and enjoyed each one. Every time we opened the bag, people came for more. The flavor is intense but not overwhelming. We tried the Organic Chips in the sea salt and the roasted garlic and onion, and again found thick slices with crunch and great taste.

Overall though, our favorites were the apple chips. Crispy slices of red delicious apples cooked to a golden crisp with all natural ingredients and a wonderful apple taste. These are available in crispy original and crispy cinnamon. All of these great products can be found in specialty stores or in the snack aisles of your local supermarket.

* Brought to these shores by Dutch settlers more than 300 years ago, nothing says soothing as well as cup of tea. It has been known for centuries that tea leaves have medicinal properties as well. They can aid in digestion, are filled with antioxidants, can fight off dental plaque, lower cholesterol, and much more. And, the purer the tea, the greater its effect.

At Honest Tea (OU, parve) they have developed a line of individually wrapped organic teas to please any tea lover. My husband loves the classic Earl Grey. This tea, named after a former British Prime Minister, is a black tea gently flavored with oil of Bergamot – an herb well-known for its taste and color.

My favorite blend is the kashmiri chai. Most people assume that chai is a specific kind of tea but it’s not. Chai is a method of preparing tea that comes to us from India. The Kashmiri Chai is flavored with cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, orange peels and ginger, and drinking it is a very intense experience. Chai is sometimes found in cans or in bags of loose powder. What I love about the Honest Tea variety is that comes in individual teabags, making preparation a snap. Drink it cold with milk or hot with a little bit of honey. All the Honest Tea varieties can be found in specialty stores and on the web at honesttea.com

* Not yet available in all stores are California Delight’s Northern Bluefin Tuna Steaks (D&S Distributing Star K, parve). The tuna is cut into thin strips and flavored with olive oil (and garlic if its says garlic on the package). The can is easy to open, like a sardine can; it has a great shelf life, is low in mercury content, and tastes yummy.

My husband took both cans to work for lunch – there was no mess, it was moist enough not to need mayonnaise and he said it tasted great. I have looked for it on some shelves, and mentioned it to some store managers – so keep asking for it. California Delight products can be found in your local kosher grocery or in the kosher section of major supermarkets.
